Summer sunshine in an open yard may fully charge a solar panel with ease. Short winter days, cloudy stretches, northern climates, and shaded lots place greater demands on the system.

Battery capacity and panel size should be considered together. A strong battery is helpful, but it cannot store energy that a small or shaded panel never collects.
